We are delighted to present a fine private collection of silver in our DESIGN Since 1860 auction on 15 & 16 April, celebrating the silver makers' art. Passionate about the breadth of 20th century silver, the collector brought together works by many of the period’s leading silversmiths.
Assembled with pride over several decades of careful and deliberate acquisition, the collector's aim was to create a work of both depth and breadth, representing the major silversmiths of the twentieth century; with individual works selected judiciously to advance this objective.
Predominantly British in focus, it begins with Christopher Dresser in the 1880s and extends into the Arts and Crafts Movement through figures such as Alexander Fisher, Gilbert Marks, and Omar Ramsden. A broader European dimension is introduced through works by the Danish firm Georg Jensen. Chronologically, the collection returns to Britain with examples of Art Deco and early modernist design, including pieces by H. G. Murphy, Charles Boyton, and the comparatively rare Reginald Hill, concluding in the 1970s with the work of Christopher Lawrence.
