Global high demand for exceptional wine and whisky continues with our specialist December 2020 auction of Whisky & Wine achieving a 100% sold rate.

Our December 2020 auction was led by a fine selection of wines from the collection of a gentleman, from an Edinburgh New Town wine cellar and bottles from The Macallan. Held live online from our historic Edinburgh saleroom, the whisky and wine auction saw bids coming in from around the globe via online bidding platforms, telephones and absentee bids. 

 

CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD

LOT 650 | CASE OF CHÂTEAU MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 2000 | OWC, 12 bottles | Sold for £15,000 incl premium

 

Both first-growth estates in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Château Mouton-Rothschild and Château Lafite Rothschild are known for their exceptional, long-lived wines. With each bottle decorated with the “Augsburg Ram”, a silver-gilt drinking vessel  by Jakob Schenauer cira 1590, from the Museum of Wine in Art at Mouton, Château Mouton-Rothschild 2000 achieved £15,000* for a case. Hailing from one of the most prestigious and collectable first-growths, a case of magnums of Château Lafite Rothschild Pauillac 1995 sold for £10,625*.

Other fine examples from the Bordeax region included Château Montrose 1990 selling for £5,250* and Château Haut-Brion 1996 achieving £3,500

 THE MACALLAN 1962 100 PROOF

The Macallan saw great competition during our 2020 sale, with the 1962 100 PROOF going for £3,500* and Private Eye for £3,250*. Two bottles of The Macallan 1964 realised £3,000* and £2,750*, while the John Menzies 150th Anniversary bottle saw £2,250*.

Port also proved popular led by examples from Dow's. Two cases of Dow's Port 1963 sold for £3,250* and £1,500*, while a case of Quinta do Noval Port 1966 achieved £812* and a mixed case of Cockburn Port realised £812*.

The success of our December 2020 auction proved the continued high demand for exceptional wines and whisky across the international stage.
