DESIGN FOR THE EDINBURGH FESTIVAL PROGRAMME COVER 1958

Auction: Day One | Wednesday 19 August from 10am | Lots 1 - 198
Description
mixed media on paper
Dimensions
30cm x 24.5cm; 49cm high, 43cm wide overall
Provenance
Gifted by the artist to James Symon (Scottish 1920-2008). He was gifted at least four examples of Festival programme or poster artworks, including by Cocteau, Philipson & Blyth dating from 1956-1961. It appears that James Symon designed the graphics for the front cover of the Edinburgh International Festival programme in 1956, so it is assumed that he was working for the Festival graphic design/publication team at that time. James Symon was later a professor of Art at Jordanhill College, Glasgow, and he is known to have exhibited at the John D Kelly Gallery, Douglas St, Glasgow, circa 1976-1980. Inherited by his stepson from his estate.
