Biography:
Matt Collishaw studied at Goldsmith’s College, London in the 1980s and exhibited in Damien Hirst’s 1988 exhibition, Frieze; the exhibition credited with launching the YBA movement. Collishaw exhibited ‘Bullet Hole,’ a close-up photo of what appears to be a bullet wound in a scalp, mounted on 15 lightboxes. His first solo exhibition came in 1990, and he has exhibited internationally since then.
Collishaw works largely in photography and video, exploring moral issues with lush and decadent imagery, often making historical references and allusions with the use of modern imaging technology. His works feature in the collections of: Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Museum Old and New Art in New South Wales, Australia; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego and Tate, London, and he has completed high-profile commissions for institutions including the V&A Museum in London and Galleria Borghese in Rome. A major retrospective of his work was staged in Warsaw in 2015.
