Description
Unpublished manuscript of a poem "Six Wee Haufs", in six sections, 3 pages, recto only, biro, with alterations, signed, [1960-61]
Footnote
Note: Two of the six sub-sections were published as individual poems in 1961 in Moray House College of Education magazine - Phoenix - which was co-edited by the vendor. A copy of Phoenix is included in the lot. The title of the poem is Six Wee Haufs and comprises six sections, entitled Sun, Old Tins, Funeral, Spring, Sail and Fundamentalist. It would appear that none of the invididual poems that comprise "Six Wee Haufs" is included within George Mackay Brown's Collected Poems.
G.M. Brown and the vendor graduated MA with Honours in English Literature from the University of Edinburgh in 1960 and both enrolled in the then Moray House College of Education to train as an English teacher. George was hospitalized with TB in the first semester, and though he returned to studies in 1961 he did not complete the course.
