Auction: Day One
the curved oval caned back above a wide serpentine caned seat in a fluted frame flanked by down-scrolling open arms with waterleaf carved supports, raised on squared and fluted tapering legs headed by carved flowerheads
Note: The present lot's design has similarities to a number of chair designs by John Linnell. A set of six gilt armchairs made for the Duke of Argyll, Inverary Castle, although upholstered, are proportionately similar and with some of the same features shown here, including the waterleaf carving to the arm supports, and the fluted seat frame and leg.
