Together We Will Find a Cure

Each year, Lyon & Turnbull chooses a charity to support and this year we are proud to be working with Brain Tumour Research (BTR), a cause very close to our hearts.

Brain Tumour Research receive no Government funding, relying solely on the support of organisations, groups and individual fundraising efforts. This year, the team will take part in a series of events including Wear a Hat Day, a Pot Luck dinner, Edinburgh Marathon Hairy Haggis Team Relay, the Highland Swing, L&T Annual Walk, whisky tasting and as many more as we can fit into the year, which will directly contribute to the growth and management of their four research centres throughout the UK.

In addition to the management of these vital centres, the organisation tirelessly campaign to raise awareness of brain tumours and their impact at the highest level of UK politics. With less than 20% of those diagnosed with a brain tumour surviving beyond five year, BTR estimate the national investment for research needs to increase to £35 million a year by 2025.

Brain Tumour Research's endeavours are supported by a number of Patrons and Ambassadors including our very own Theo Burrell plus Caprice, Debbie McGee, Denise Van Outen and John Newman, all helping to raise awareness of Brain Tumour Research's three main priorities: to grow capacity, build infrastructure and accelerate treatments

A Cause Close To Our Hearts

In the summer of 2022, our friend and colleague Theo Burrell was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (GBM), one of the most common and aggressive types of brain cancer. Despite having shown symptoms for nearly 6 months, Theo was under the impression that she was suffering from migraines, but on 07 June a CT scan at A&E revealed a 5cm tumour. Theo was 35 and her son was a year old. What followed was surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, finishing in April 2023. Theo has received stable scan results since treatment ended, but knows that her GBM will return. Future treatment options are very limited for those in this situation, which is why her family and friends are gathering to raise funds to improve the lives of those living with the disease.
