Highlights of the sale include a group of watercolours, furniture and works of art by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, including the wonderful French period watercolour ‘Bouleternère’ and a group of silver cutlery designed for Fra and Jessie Newbery; a remarkable collection of works of art and personal items belonging to Jessie Marion King and her husband, designer and artist E.A. Taylor. Another highlight is the rare and beautiful ‘St Cecilia’ tapestry circa 1888, woven at Merton Abbey by Morris & Co., to designs by Sir Edward Burne-Jones and John Henry Dearle.
Also in the sale is a collection of continental Art Nouveau including several rare works by Amphora, designed by Eduard Stellmacher. The sale also includes an exciting selection of works by designers such as Christopher Dresser, Philip Webb, W.A.S. Benson, C.F.A. Voysey, James Herbert McNair and Sir Edwin Lutyens; Carlo Bugatti, Josef Hoffmann, Herter Brothers and many others.
