Perth Art Gallery has announced a major exhibition dedicated to one of the most influential groups in Scottish art, with The Scottish Colourists Revealed opening to the public on 03 April 2026. Bringing together rarely seen works by Samuel John Peploe, Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell, George Leslie Hunter and John Duncan Fergusson, the exhibition promises a fresh perspective on these celebrated artists, and we are proud to be sponsoring the exhibition as part of our bicentenary year.
Although collectively known as The Scottish Colourists, Peploe, Cadell, Hunter and Fergusson never formally worked as a group and were only exhibited together on three occasions during their lifetimes. United instead by their shared experiences in France, the artists absorbed the influence of Post-Impressionism and Fauvism, developing a bold use of colour and form that would help redefine modern Scottish painting in the early 20th century.
