The Legacy of the Scottish Colourists
Join us at Perth Art Gallery for a special in-conversation event celebrating the legacy of Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell, John Duncan Fergusson, George Leslie Hunter and Samuel John Peploe, known collectively as The Scottish Colourists.
In this engaging discussion, Rhona Corbett, Head of Museums and Collections at Culture Perth and Kinross, will join Alice Strang, our Senior Fine Art Specialist, award-winning art historian and curator, to reflect on the bold and distinctive work of the Scottish Colourists. Together they will consider the lasting significance of these four pioneering artists and share insights into how their work continues to shape our understanding of modern Scottish art.
The conversation will also offer a fascinating behind-the-scenes perspective on staging a major exhibition, drawing on the making of The Scottish Colourists Revealed at Perth Art Gallery. The exhibition brings together exceptional and rarely seen paintings by Cadell, Fergusson, Hunter and Peploe from collections across Scotland, offering a fresh look at their intertwined artistic legacies. Rhona Corbett and Alice Strang will discuss the journey from initial concept through negotiating loans, curating the display and ultimately opening the exhibition to the public.
Tickets for the event can be booked on the Perth Art Gallery website and cost £6.00 / £4.50. Please note that doors will open at 18:45 for a 19:00 start.
Lyon & Turnbull is delighted to be sponsoring the Scottish Colourists Revealed exhibition as part of our bicentenary celebrations and also to mark a century since we began to sell the work of the Scottish Colourists. Alice’s book about them, commissioned by the National Galleries of Scotland, will be published later this year.
