Footnote
This recently attributed copy of the, lost, original 1747 / 48 portrait in pastel by Maurice Quentin de la Tour brings Gabriel Francois Doyen into a group of quality 18th century artists copying this iconic image. While the original is lost, various copies are recorded in full size and miniature and engraving. The various miniatures are often attributed to Kamm and were likely painted circa 1749 when George Watts, banker to Prince Charles, had been convinced by Princess de Talmont, Prince Charles mistress, to lend his original for copies to be produced.
