oval, painted with watercolour and body colour on ivory, signed 'P Paillou 1799', the sitter a man with a grey hair, blue coat with white stock and cravat, the reverse with a ring of pearlescent enamel enclosing an oval with seed pearl set initial 'L' mounted on woven plaits of hair, in an unmarked yellow metal frame with suspension loop, in a period locket case with red leather cover
