Glasgow: James Maclehose, 1870. First edition, one of 120 copies only, 4to, original green cloth over bevelled boards with red morocco backstrip, title and vignette gilt to spine and front board, top edge gilt, 102 albumen-print photographs (of which 100 of houses, and 2 of historical city maps), mounted as issued, each with leaf (or 2 leaves) of descriptive letterpress, publisher's printed slip tipped to front free endpaper, wear to spine, tips bumped, light spotting to a few mounts, a small number of photographs with light fading along to edges, text-leaf for plate 21 browned from laid-in newsprint [Gernsheim 504]

‘With 100 albumen prints, 16.5 x 12.5cm, by Thomas Annan of well-known places in the neighbourhood of Glasgow. This edition was limited to 120 copies, price 5 guineas. The second edition of 1878 was illustrated with carbon prints, cost 10 guineas, and was limited to 225 copies’ (Gernsheim).
