Footnote
Very rare epistolary novel by an author who signs the dedication as A. Rogers of Dronfield, Derbyshire. This is almost certainly the Ann or Anna Rogers (1753-1844) who married the physician, botanist and Lunar Society member Jonathan Stokes at Dronfield in 1784, and is known to have maintained a long friendship with the poet Anna Seward.
