Description
Edinburgh: Adam and Charles Black, 1867-70. 6 volumes, 16mo (13.5 x 8.2cm), comprising ‘Lord of the Isles' (1867), ‘Rokeby’ (1869), ‘Marmion,’ ‘Bridal of Triermain,’ ‘Lady of the Lake,’ ‘Lay of the Last Minstrel’ (all 1870), contemporary Mauchline-ware bindings of wooden covers transfer-printed with tartan patterns, gilt blue, red, and green morocco spines, all edges gilt, engraved additional vignette title-page to each volume, in wooden Mauchline-ware box (11.5 x 19 x 16.5cm), covered with Stuart tartan pattern waxed paper, with vignette of the Sir Francis Chantrey 1820 bust of Scott on lid, blue velvet lining, slight spotting to engraved title-pages but otherwise internally very clean, box with some scratches and discolouration, base of box worn with loss of covering in places
