Footnote
Wu Shujuan (1853-1930), courtesy name Xingfen, was a rare outstanding female painter during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic Period. Travelling through the scenic spots of eighteen provinces, she adhered to the principle of "learning from nature" and created numerous sketches. Her landscape painting style varied with the scenery, presenting a myriad of styles. In 1910, her work was exhibited at the Rome Exposition and was collected by the Queen of Italy at a high price, bringing her international acclaim.
