Leading our next Asian Works of Art auction in March will Brushes Across Empire: Works from the Collection of Sir James Stewart Lockhart (1858–1937), a landmark collection of Chinese paintings as well as ceramics, and works of art.Comprising approximately 180 lots, Brushes Across Empire celebrates the discerning eye and enduring legacy of Sir James Stewart Lockhart, a distinguished scholar, linguist, and colonial administrator who served in Hong Kong from 1879 and later as Commissioner of Weihaiwei between 1902 and 1921. The collection is offered for sale on behalf of, and to benefit, George Watson’s College, Edinburgh.The second part of the auction will feature a wide range of ceramics, jade, bronzes and paintings.
