Footnote
Arthur Agarde, Deputy Chamberlain of the Exchequer from 1570 to 1615 and an associate of Sir Robert Cotton, was the author of several works on the Domesday Book. This copy was possibly written by him for his own use, some of the annotations are the same as the copy of the Great Domesday signed by Agarde and the work includes extracts arranged in a style consistent to Agarde.
"A final example of Agarde's scholarly work on Domesday is a two-volume abstract of the Book, the original manuscripts of which have similarly only come to light recently. The Great Domesday book is in private hands, the Little Domesday section is in the British Library [HARL M.S 5167] (see "Dr Elizabeth Hallam - Arthur Agarde and the Domesday Book, from a Book of Essays on Sir Robert Carlton"
Included in this lot is a collection of the correspondence and articles by Dr Elizabeth Hallam from the Public Records Office.
