Selected Works from Edinburgh Printmakers
Join Head of Sale Carly Shearer as she discusses the group of selected works from Edinburgh Printmakers included in our 01 May Prints & Multiples auction, offered to raise funds to support their initiatives to provide space, expertise and support for artists and the wider community (Lots 128-153).
The Edinburgh Printmakers studio was established in 1967 as the first open-access studio in the U.K. and remains one of the largest in Europe. The recent move to a heritage building in Fountainbridge, previously a rubber factory and brewery complex, has expanded its scope for membership, gallery exhibitions and outreach to the wider community.
Janet Archer, CEO Edinburgh Printmakers says ‘Edinburgh Printmakers is delighted to be working with Lyon & Turnbull to auction a very special selection of prints by some of Scotland’s most renowned artists including John Bellany, Rachel Maclean, Kate Downie and Alan Davie. Sourced from our extensive archive, these prints are an opportunity to own works created at Edinburgh Printmakers by these artists as they developed their practice creating ambitious works in print. All proceeds from sales will go towards supporting artists and the wider creative community.’
Lots 128-153 offer twenty-six opportunities to purchase prints by many artists for whom Edinburgh Printmakers has played a key role in their careers, including John Bellany, Alan Davie, John Byrne, Kate Downie and Carol Rhodes. Highlights include a newsprint inspired screenprint by David Shrigley, an Edinburgh Printmakers work with National Gallery, London exhibition history by Rachel Maclean, and a selection of etchings by John Bellany spanning the period 1970-1995.
