OVERVIEW
This exciting full-time position, based in Edinburgh, will assist and support the Head of Department with the regular auction, valuations and client event schedule.
As part of one of our busiest specialist departments, with auctions in London and Edinburgh, a Specialist in the team needs to establish close relationships with a wide range of people, so must have superb interpersonal skills. Being a dynamic communicator, you will require a passion for your subject area which you can impart to clients. You will also require good cataloguing and research skills and a strong eye for detail. You will need to be organized with an ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
This role requires an in-depth knowledge of your specialism which you will continue expand over time, aiming to become an expert in your field to encourage sellers and attract buyers. You will have an ever-growing understanding of who the buyers and sellers in your field are and will constantly be trying to expand your relationships with them.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Proactively source goods for sale by the department and when talking to/visiting clients be aware of opportunities for other departments also.
- Strong cataloguing skills and able to provide jewellery appraisals.
- Establish new business contacts while maintaining long-term relationships with clients, dealers, and collectors.
- Assist and advise on business getting proposals, taking part in client discussions and presentations to win business.
- Participate in dept. sessions to determine value, condition and marketability of goods in.
- Visit and liaise with clients, with regards to items for sale and general sale-related enquiries.
- Go on goods getting trips.
- Provide sale valuations for clients, following visits and via email, to proofed L&T format.
- Review general email enquiries, working with sale-coordinator
- Proactively look for/think of buyers for items in dept. sales.
- Assist the administrator in managing the aftersales processes.
- Actively participate in private views, dinners, other client events both internal and external.
- Continue to grow and expand knowledge of specialist subject.
- Give presentations/talks/lectures to interest groups/clients.
- Begin to have a sense of your personal sales target, to be maintained annually and preferably increased.
- Provide valuations assistance for Valuations Department as required, both internally and on valuation visits.
- Provide additional support where required to the heads of departments and sales and across the company as a whole.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 5 years of experience in jewellery industry / preferably auction house.
- Professional gemmology qualifications essential - FGA, DGA or GG
- Excellent organisational skills with a keen eye for accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to deal with clients courteously and professionally
- Excellent communication and interaction skills
- Excellent time-management skills
- Be able to work individually as well as part of a team
BENEFITS
- Salary dependent on experience.
- Full time - standard company hours 9am-5pm Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required at needs of company
- Based in central Edinburgh location. Will require travel.
