Do I need to book an appointment?
Yes, booking an appointment is essential to ensure you have sufficient time with our expert specialist. To book an appointment, please email us at info@lyonandturnbull.com or call 0131 557 8844.
Is there a cost for the valuation?
No, our auction valuations are completely free of charge. However, should you need a valuation for insurance or inheritance tax purposes, that is chargeable and can be discussed at your appointment.
What types of jewellery can I bring?
You can bring a variety of items, including antique jewellery, contemporary pieces, designer collections or loose gemstones.
Can I bring multiple pieces of jewellery?
Yes, you’re welcome to bring multiple items. However, please inform the team during booking so they can allocate sufficient time for your appointment.
How long does a valuation take?
Generally initial valuation appointments last around 30 minutes, however when when you contact us to book, we will be able to provide better timescales.
Will I receive a formal written valuation?
The valuation provided at the event is an informal verbal estimate. If you require a formal written valuation for insurance or legal purposes, the team can guide you on how to arrange this.
What should I bring with my jewellery?
If you have any certificates, previous valuations, or receipts for your items, bringing them along can help the valuers provide a more accurate assessment but is by no means necessary.
How do I sell my jewellery at auction?
Our specialist team can advise you on selling your jewellery through Lyon & Turnbull’s auction platform. If you're interested in consigning items, they’ll explain the process.
Where are valuations held?
The event takes place at Lyon & Turnbull’s Edinburgh saleroom at 33 Broughton Place, Edinburgh EH1 3RR, accessible by tram, bus or with on street parking nearby.
I can't attend—are there other options?
We host monthly jewellery valuation days in Edinburgh, Glasgow & London however if you’re unable to attend in person, you can request a free auction valuation online.
