Silver & Objets de Vertu Auction Specialists
Lyon & Turnbull’s Silver & Objets de Vertu department currently holds two specialist auctions per year - dedicated to both British and foreign silverware from the 14th century to modern day alongside the annual Scottish Silver & Applied Arts auction in August.
While good quality pieces of traditional silverware remain popular, items with a particularly interesting provenance or by renowned makers such as Paul Storr, Hamilton & Inches, Paul de Lamerie, Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, Mappin & Webb and Garrards, garner much excitement.
Recent years have seen the emergence of post-war British silverware as an important collecting area and Scotland is proud to be home to a number of highly-regarded contemporary silversmiths, including Malcolm Appleby, Graham Stewart and Adrian Hope.
The Market Leader in Scottish Silver Auctions
Lyon & Turnbull is the market leader when it comes to dedicated Scottish silver auctions, with an annual dedicated sale in August held in our Scottish auction house in Edinburgh and via live online auction. Our specialists’ in-depth knowledge of Scottish silver and the current market have proved to be an essential combination to the successful sale of Scottish silver from not only the silversmiths of Edinburgh and Glasgow but also Aberdeen, Ballater, Elgin and Perth, to name a few.
Since launching a sale dedicated to Scottish Silver & Accessories in 2008 the department have become recognised as the authority in the field, often advising museums nationally on the subject. Scottish silver is a lifelong passion for our Consultant specialist Colin Fraser, and his expertise in the subject has seen him taken into the confidence of many top-level collectors. He is regularly invited to lecture at events and institutions in Scotland, the UK and North America.
