Huckitta (Northern Territory, Australia) Pallasite (stony-iron) - found 1924
Huckitta is a stony iron meteorite called a pallasite - originally part of the core-mantle boundary layer within an asteroid. This meteorite has had a very long Earth age, resulting in all of the metallic iron transforming into its mineral hematite. Cut sections reveal many dark angular olivine crystals set in a grey hematite matrix
