Footnote
Born in Lochwinnoch, David McClure became a painter, teacher, and writer, after having attended Queen’s Park School in Glasgow, Edinburgh University, and Edinburgh College of Art. McClure went on to receive a traveling scholarship and Andrew Grant fellowship in which he embarked on several enriching journeys to Italy, Spain, and Sicily before settling down to teach at Dundee College of Art. There, he became the head of the painting school. Known for his figurative subject matter and layered compositions, and borrowing whimsical qualities from John Maxwell’s paintings, David McClure’s works embrace the playful “painting within a painting” technique to depict vivid still lifes.
