Although he was born in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, he spent most of his life in Edinburgh. Glass studied at the Gray’s School of Art and the Royal Scottish Academy Life School as well as abroad in Paris and Italy before serving in WWI. He found inspiration in the seascapes of Iona, painting alongside John McLaughlan Milne, Francis Cadell, and Samuel Peploe. Glass was awarded the Maclaine Watters bronze medal and Chalmers Jervise prize. Additionally, he exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Glasgow Institute, and Aberdeen Artists' Society.
