Note:
These chairs are provenanced to Abbotsford House, Melrose, by repute. They come with the original reciept dated April 8th 1939 when they were purchased for £6 and 6 shillings each from E.S. Shann, 2 Royal Parade, Harrogate. The receipt states "Formerly the property of Sir Walter Scott from Abbotsford". Also sold with the lot is 'The Homes and Haunts of Sir Walter Scott Bart' by George Napier, published James Maclehose & Sons 1897.
