Notes: This appears to be one of only a very small number of recorded marked Ellon pieces. This has been the only item to appear on the open marked fully marked for Ellon and no examples were in any of the large collections of Scottish Provincial silver dispersed through auction. It should also be noted that no example has been exhibited in any of the major exhibitions on the subject either.
While this is the only concretely recorded example it is reputed that one or two other toddy ladles have been noted, although their existence cannot be confirmed or the possibility that they may be repeated appearance of this piece.
This is without doubt one of the rarest marks for Scottish provincial silver.
