Notes: This set of marks by John Sellar are particularly well struck and preserved. It is interesting to note the way his makers punch JS, has been struck on an angle twice to only show the S. It is considered this may be to try and replicate the use and style of an official Edinburgh date letter. It appears quite commonly in Scottish provincial marks that makers try to replicate the combination of punches used in official Assay offices probably to add weight and and official air to their marked work.
