Born in 1920, Bernard Dunstan is currently the longest serving Royal Academician, having been elected in 1959. Married to fellow artist and Royal Academician, Diana Armfield (he begins each day with a sketch of her), he is also a respected author. A proponent of figurative art, in his choice of masterfully executed figure studies and interior scenes, one sees the influence of Walter Sickert, and his work has been lauded as 'quintessentially English'. His paintings are included in the National Portrait Gallery, the Royal Collection, and the Arts Council collection.
