Although struck to commemorate the death of James I in 1625 this medal was originally issued as part of J Dassier’s thirty-four medallion series ‘Kings & Queens of England’. This set illustrates the monarchs from William I to, the then current monarch George II. This set was available in bronze and silver at a cost of six or fifteen guineas and is occasionally found in original wooden trays.
