Although struck to commemorate the death of James II in 1701 this medal was originally issued as part of J Dassier’s thirty-four medallion series ‘Kings & Queens of England’. This set illustrates the monarchs from William I to the then-current monarch George II. This set was available in silver and bronze at a cost of fifteen or six guineas and is occasionally found in original wooden trays.
