Lot 410

A RARE GEORGE III BEER JUG
PATRICK ROBERTSON, EDINBURGH 1765

Auction: Day Two | Thursday 20 August from 10am | Lots 199 - 555
Description
Of baluster form, crest engraved below Earl's coronet, short spout and a double scroll handle
Dimensions
23cm high, 33.5oz
Provenance
Sotheby's Precious Objects from Asprey & Garrard, 18th and 19th December 2001, London, lot 780
Footnote
The unicorn's head erased crest is used by the Kerr and Conynham families both of whom have subsidiary Earldoms but in 1765 had not yet been created. It therefore sees possible that the crest is for a courtesy titled member of the family of the Dukes of Roxburghe
