probably Orkney or Shetland, the shaped top rail with two thin splats above a lower pine board solid back, the low panelled arms and board solid seat on square legs united by stretchers

John Roberston was the author of ‘Uppies & Doonies’, the story of the Kirkwall Ba’, written in 1967, which he later revised and expanded on in ‘The Kirkwall Ba’, Between the Water and the Wall’ published in 2005. A lifelong enthusiast of the Ba’, he won the coveted trophy on New Year’s Day 1966, and was chairman of the Ba’ Committee for many years. He was an important member of Orcadian society and contributed much to the islands' businesses and community.
