Footnote
Note: The Anchor Line company's origins can be traced back to 1855, when Captain Thomas Henderson from Fife became a partner in the shipping agent firm of N & R Handyside & Co, of Glasgow. The company subsequently became Handyside & Henderson, and operated a service to India. In 1856, Handyside & Henderson launced the 'Anchor Line' service to New York. In 1873, the company passed completely to the Henderson brothers and became known as D & W Henderson. Over the next few decades, 32 Anchor Line ships would be built. When the brothers died at the end of the 19th century, the company restructured, becoming Anchor Line (Henderson Brothers) Ltd. In 1910, Anchor Line moved its berth to the newly built Yorkhill Quay. This album documents some of the private life of this family, famed for building sleek ships which offered affordable comfort to customers.
