Footnote
Note: A very significant document itemising the amounts paid by 46 of the Gentlemen Golfers, varying from one to five guineas. "We The Captain and Members of the Golf Club of St Andrews subscribing do hereby Agree and oblige ourselves to pay the sums annexed to our names respectively for the purpose of erecting a supper room above the Town Hall of St Andrews, the use of both Rooms being in future afforded for the Meetings of the Golfing Society." This list shows the beginnings of the Golfers establishing their own meeting rooms. The fact that Charles Grace was also the Town Clerk as well as Honorary Secretary to the Club may have helped to facilitate the arrangement between the Golfers and the Town Council. Variations in the handwriting would suggest that some of the names are signatures whilst others are inserted by the secretary.
The amount subscribed was £106.1.6 and a further £16.16.0 was collected from Gentlemen in Edinburgh. Various related expenses are noted.
