Manuscript account of the Jacobite advance: "Derby,. Dec, 8th 1745, The rebels behaved tolerably well in there march southward but have plundered the country in their return.. houses broken with their artillery army between Ashborn and Derby... camp at Moridon Common. In their town they demanded billets for 10,000 men... horses extremely jaded and in bad condition... numbers of old men and boys of 15 without shoes or stockings all... Coventry, Dec. 9th went to Locke. Before they left Ashborn they shot 2 men.. taken all the horses they could get... had 15 piece cannon"; also refering to Macklesfield, vanguard at Manchester, Leigh, Wigan & Preston "the Duke C had made two forces march after them", 1 leaf, folio, slight loss to left margin at foot
