Description
The works... collated and corrected by the former editions, by Mr. Pope. London: Jacob Tonson, 1723-1725. First edition thus, 6 volmes, 4to., the engraved plate of the Shakespeare monument has been substituted as a frontispiece for the engraved portrait by Vertue of Shakespeare, titlepage to the first volume in red and black, contemporary light tan calf, spines decorated gilt in compartments, joints worn, lacking some lettering pieces, some light discolouration and occasional patches of foxing (6)

Note: Griffith 149; Jaggard 498. A supplementary volume with a preface by Dr. Sewell was added in 1725, but not prepared by Pope. Loosely inserted in volume 1 is a MS copy of a poem attributed to Robert Nugent.
