pencil with blue and red crayon on graph paper (38 x 27.7cm), various annotations in pencil including title at head ('Blundell's Chapel, proposed crucifix, 1/8 full size'), signed 'EG 21.5.38' lower right in pencil, additional autograph note by Gill in black ink lower left ('Please return to Eric Gill, Pigotts, High Wycombe'), rough workings in pencil on verso, pinholes to top and bottom edges, rust-staining to upper left corner, strip of toning along right edge, transverse central fold

Note: Eric Gill returned to architecture late in life, 'replanning and rebuilding with the boys of Blundell's School at Tiverton a chapel with a central altar (1938), designed with the aim of democratizing churchgoers' participation in the mass—a radical and influential innovation' (Fiona Macarthy in ODNB).
