Footnote
Note: First edition, first impression, presentation copy, inscribed by the author 'For C. M. Grieve, Hugh MacDiarmid, from Jas Leslie Mitchell, Lewis Grassic Gibbon' on the title-page. A superb Scottish Renaissance association copy. Spartacus is considered the best novel written by Mitchell, author of the Scots Quair trilogy, under his real name. He and MacDiarmid were co-authors of The Scottish Scene, published in 1934.
