Footnote
Introduced in 1949, the Ref. 2451 was a more robust, water-resistant evolution of the Calatrava Ref.96, first introduced in 1932. Featuring a screw-down case back and an inner metal dust cover, it could be worn swimming, earning it the collector nickname ‘Aquatic’. Whilst Patek Philippe had previously produced a water-resistant Calatrava in the form of the Ref.565, the Ref.2451 offered a more refined interpretation, combining water resistance with slightly smaller, more elegant proportions. Produced predominantly in yellow gold, examples in stainless steel are exceptionally rare.
