Footnote
Introduced in 2005, Rolex created and patented, within its own foundry, the exclusive 18k ‘Everose’ gold used. First released in 1956 as the reference 6611, the iconic Rolex Day-Date has become synonymous with the brand and used in numerous advertisements and publications, when the Ref.1803 was described as ‘The President’, due to its popularity with US Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson. Only produced in precious metals, notable updates included a quick-set day introduced in 1978 with reference 18038 featuring a sapphire crystal, then double quick-set day and date in 1988 with reference 18238. The 41mm Day Date II version was released in 2008, then updated again in 2016 to the 40mm diameter Ref.228238. The model was updated in 2019 with the latest calibre 3255 movement as found in this lot. Of note, Day Date references ending in 8 are designated yellow gold, 9 are white gold and 5 are rose gold.
