Footnote
Octavio Sardà (born 1932) founded his eponymous brand of jewellery in 1958 in Spain. He initially trained in the workshops of the regarded Spanish jewellers Josep Llovera before branching out with his own designs. Sardà's designs are characterised by bold gold creations. “I have always found inspiration in nature. For example, in a leaf or a bird. I like to think that I am inspired by the same things that inspired Antoni Gaudí.”
One of Sardà's significant contributions was the design of the coat of arms of Constitutional Spain which he presented, in person, to King Juan Carlos I in 1983. He also collaborated with Salvador Dalí on the creation of a series of forty two bronze sculptures, now part of the Reynolds Morse Foundation at the Dalí Museum in St Petersburg, Florida.
Despite not having their own stores, for a time they hosted exhibitions in their own homes, Sarda's work became stocked at top jewellery retailers and exported throughout Europe, the U.S. and South America. Octavio is now retired, and the firm is run by his daughter Eulàlia Sardà.
