Footnote
These cufflinks were presented to a distinguished British diplomat in the early 1970s. While serving in southern Asia they were invited to join the late HM Queen Elizabeth II and HRH Prince Philip, abord the Royal Yacht Britannia for a short cruise in the Maldives, when the cufflinks were presented.
Andrew Grima (1921-2007) was a celebrated jewellery designer during the second half of the 20th century, famous for his abstract organic designs and use of semi-precious gemstones; he was granted a Royal Warrant in 1970. The late Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret were great admirers of his work, and while they also purchased pieces from him for their personal collections, they regularly commissioned presentation or commemorative pieces intended as official gifts.
