Showing the movement within a sculpture of this type is unusual. Most wood elephant sculptures are static. Comparable stylistic elements can be drawn with the semi-automaton lacquered wood, Tippoo's Tiger, in the Victoria and Albert Museum, made for Tipu Sultan in 1799 (see accession number 2545(IS)).
