4 original parts as issued, folio (53 x 36.8cm), original cloth-backed printed wrappers (with imprints dated 1843), tinted lithographic vignette title-page, lithographic list of plates, 24 tinted lithographic plates, each plate with tissue-guard and leaf of descriptive text, publisher's advertisement leaf, publisher's notice slip ('Messers Dickinson have prepared a suitable Binding …') tipped to tissue guard itself tipped to inside front cover of part 4, gutta percha perished and all leaves loose in wrappers, wrappers marked and finger-soiled tissue-guards variably spotted and with a few marginal chips, part 3 backstrip chipped at foot, text-leaf for plate 13 with repaired closed tears to inner margin [not in Abbey Travel].

Footnote
First edition of this important pictorial survey of the Sikh rulers of the Punjab and assorted other characters from Indian life. The artist was the sister of Lord Auckland, governor-general of India from 1836 to 1842. No other copy in the original wrappers traced at auction for over 50 years.
