depicting a lavish bower, abundant with paper and wirework foliage with brightly enamelled or metallic fruit and flowers, with figures, animals and birds fashioned from glass lampwork and clay, the grotto with details that appear to sparkle and with features such as ponds and flowing water, the back with a mirror plate, with a pair of velvet curtains and a swag surrounding the scene, enclosed within a deep giltwood and gesso case with architectural details such as brickwork, arches and a tiled roof, the glazed front panel within a moulded frame surmounted with a tied ribbon
