Note: This figure is very similar to one contained within the Wallace Collection, which houses a set of four putti playing musical instruments, all raised on gilt bronze plinths, almost identical to this one. The models appear to have originated from Rome, and are thought to be the work of Francois Duquesnoy and Alessandro Algardi. However, those contained within the Wallace Collection, and others sold since, have always be thought to be French made.
