Description
the plain rounded banana shaped lock signed BARBAR, elegant cock, with foliate engraved barrel tang, finely chiselled steel side plate in the form of a stylised dragon, the three stage round swamped barrel with rubbed proof marks and all over minor pitting, steel spurred pommel with chiselled grotesque mask, scroll trigger, steel shield shaped blank escutcheon, plain steel trigger guard with early form of acorn finial, turned baluster steel ramrod pipes and replacement ramrod

Note: Lewis Barbar born at Essendon in Poitou, France he came to London c.1690.In 1716 he was warden of the Gunmakers Company and master in 1718, Gentleman Armourer to King George Ist & II his son James was apprenticed to him in October 1714 and succeeded his father in 1741.
