Footnote
The stylised floral thumb-piece, seen to the lower strainer part of this wine funnel, resembles the symbolic Jacobite Rose, decoratively employed to represent the House of Stuart. This motif was discreetly used to support the Jacobite cause and was often accompanied by a rose bud representing the Old and Young Pretenders to the throne.
