From 1946 A.W.N. Pugin was employed designing fixtures and fittings for the new Palace of Westminster, the previous building having been destroyed by fire in 1834. Pugin worked alongside the architect Charles Barry, winner of the 1835 competition to redesign the Palace, contributing his overwhelmingly Gothic style. Hundreds of Pugin's original drawings survive, many held by the V&A, in which he combines pen and ink designs with pencil annotations, sometimes enhanced with watercolour.
